Going Down
02:58
|
|||
I think of all the times
I felt so low
Every time I got feeling better
I got naive
And thought that it would stay
Going down
Going down
Going down again
Feeling small, very small
All, all the time
Been feeling like this
Since junior high
When will it all stop
Going down
Going down
Going down again
Think that I once had it all [-a-ha-hall ]
There's a man in me
I'm gonna destroy
And he will be no more
He'll be dead and I'll be free
I'll unlock that door
Going down
Going down
Going down again

Lost Without A Dame
02:58
|
|||
People see you on the street
And kindly ask you, "Who are you seeing, now"
You turn so ashamed
Lost without a dame
Everybody says you gotta have a girl
Everybody says you gotta get a girl
And give her your name
Lost without a dame
I've been lost since I lost you
Tell me, are you feeling the same way, too?
Or is this just a game?
Lost without a dame
Yeah...woooh!!!!!
Let's hear about the girls in my life
You know, my mama, she treated me mean
But that's not the same
Lost without a dame

Harley Man
02:00
|
|||
There was this drunk up at the split rail in that bar
And he was staggerin' all around real skinny guy
And he was yellin', shootin' pool
And he said "I'm a Harley man
And I'll be a Harley man
'till the day I die."
"I'm a Harley man and I'll be a Harley man
Till the day I die" he said
"I'm a Harley man and I'll be a Harley man
Till the day I die," he said
Till the day he dies
He drank lots of beer
And he wanted everyone to know that he wasn't a queer
"I'm a Harley man and I'll be a Harley man
Till the day I die," he said
Till the day he dies
He was hardly a man
Though hardly a man at all
But he sure like his Harley
You'd see him staggerin' around
Staggerin' around up at the mall
Happy as can be
You see he was never really sober enough
To feel the pain of being an asshole
"I'm a Harley man and I'll be a Harley man
Till the day I die."
"I'm a Harley man and I'll be a Harley man
Till the day I die," he said
Till the day he died

Evening Stars
02:04
|
|||
Walkin' my baby underneath a tree
Everything seems real to me
And the evening stars do shine
I'm holding her by the palm of her hand
She seems to understand
And the evening stars do shine
You've been kind to me and I won't forget
Kinder than anybody's been to me yet
Ohhhhh ohhh
Wandering around now, nobody told me
I figured it out for myself
And the evening stars do shine
I was thinking just the other day
My, how things have changed since you've been mine
Oh oh ooh
You've been kind to me and I won't forget
Kinder than anybody's been to me yet
Ohhhhh ohhh

Cold Hard World
03:12
|
|||
It's a cold hard world, It's a cold hard world
It's a cold hard world, oh no
I heard Red Donley say, It was on the news today
It's a cold hard world, It's a cold hard world
It's hiking across the country, looking for a bite to eat
You'd be surprised at the angles and the people you'd meet
Rolling down that highway with eyes fixed straight ahead
They have a caravan of cars to bury the dead
And coke cans and pop bottles lined the streets like flowers instead
And this guy gave me a ride, I said this industrial waste sure stinks
He said he likes that smell 'cause that's the smell of money
I said "well, mister money stinks, too."
It's a cold hard world, It's a cold hard world
It's a cold hard world, oh no *flips page*
I met a fireman, he said you never forget burning flesh
And the librarian said do you have a card here?
I said I've been coming here for weeks, don't you recognize me by now?
I checked out a million books just to get you to notice me
It's a cold hard world, It's a cold hard world
It's a cold hard world, oh no
Somebody's house burned down, somebody's hubcap fell off
Somebody's soul got lost, somebody's heart got broke
I heard Red Donley say, it was on the news today
It's a cold hard world, it's a cold hard world

I Had A Dream
02:41
|
|||
I had a dream about you
You were the queen of quite a few
And I was there, but you didn't care
I didn't matter somehow
The band played and you sang a tune
And the stars fell down from the moon
And you smiled a smile that parted the sea
But you didn't notice me, no
Your eyes filled up the sky and they were blue
And you had a weird monkey there with you too
And he danced a jig and tipped his hat
And he turned around with a grin so fat
And he was me
There were lights and fireworks and cannons going off in your honor
And I was worried but a man said "Don't worry, nothing can harm her"
And I grabbed the microphone and I stood all alone
And I looked up at you, and you looked down at me
And then you said "Off with his head"
I had a dream about you

The Story Of An Artist
05:07
|
|||
I don't know
It's like when you go to read your own poetry, you get all choked up
Listen up and I'll tell a story
About an artist growing old
Some would try for fame and glory
Others aren't so bold
Everyone, and friends and family
Saying, “Hey! Get a job!”
“Why do you only do that only?
Why are you so odd?
We don't really like what you do
We don't think anyone ever will
It's a problem that you have
And this problem's made you ill.”
Listen up and I'll tell a story
About an artist growing old
Some would try for fame and glory
Others aren't so bold
The artist walks alone
Someone says behind his back
“He's got his gall to call himself that!
He doesn't even know where he's at!”
The artist walks among the flowers
Appreciating the sun
He does this all his waking hours
But is it really so wrong?
They sit in front of their TVs
Saying, “Hey! This is fun!”
And they laugh at the artist
Saying, “He doesn't know how to have fun.”
The best things in life are truly free
Singing birds and laughing bees
“You've got me wrong”, says he
“The sun don't shine in your TV”
Listen up and I'll tell a story
About an artist growing old
Some would try for fame and glory
Others aren't so bold
Everyone, and friends and family
Saying, “Hey! Get a job!”
“Why do you only do that only?
Why are you so odd?
We don't really like what you do
We don't think anyone ever will
It's a problem that you have
And this problem's made you ill.”
Listen up and I'll tell a story
About an artist growing old
Some would try for fame and glory
Others just like to watch the world

My Yoke Is Heavy
05:51
|
|||
Blue clouds twisted into a funnel
Somewhere far off the thunder roaring
And the fortune teller has fixed her sleepy eyes on my child
Sometimes I climb high up a tree
To let the wind blow in my face
Sometimes I leave my cares lying in piles
Somewhat disturbing is the sound of birds singing
When you know you don't deserve it
You are not here today
And I feel just like an empty eggshell, and
My yoke is heavy
My yoke is heavy
My voice is a little horse
Galloping lost through the woods
Calling your name
It's new to me
But just the same
The earth is an old canvas
Painted over many times
The poet rambles
The world it scrambles
But who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men
Your shadow knows
It's right behind you all the way
Your shadow knows where you've been
Somewhat disturbing is the sound of birds singing
When you know you don't deserve it
You are not here today
And I feel just like an empty eggshell, and
My yoke is heavy
My yoke is heavy
Sacred is the smile
That opened up my mind
That may at last please save me
And rid my cold, cold heart
Of the dark deep gloom
That took up so much room
In my many spacious memories
And many are the times
I thought and rethought
The thoughts you got me thinking
Though the sun shines bright upon me now
And I am young and kicking
My yoke is heavy
My yoke is heavy

Stars On Parade
02:42
|
|||
Stars on Parade, Stars on Parade!
There's a story about this kid named Sid
And he was born to be wild
I save cigarette butts for a monkey
In a mountain and I looked around
Some kind of friend went out one night
Walking in the premarital world the wicked world
Don't you ever wear my clothes again
Stars on Parade!
When I was a little happy
Happy, happy, happy
You wanted to be somebody
But you ain't no fun
Bomb bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
Jail babe don't you know I can't
Hoovering comes to mind
Somehow describing hoovering becomes
Important in a cold hard world
It's a very, like a rose, like a rose
Like a monkey in a blue bayou
Like a complete unknown
Like the wild wind blowing in the stars above
I'm looking for a nice girl
There was this big guy
Since I lost my smile
And your heart is weary
Stars on Parade!

And You Love It
03:41
|
|||
...We've just produced a great big lazy bum! And you have no shame; you like it that way
You're an unprofitable servant!
What do you contribute? Well, you say 'I don't contribute anything'... well Daniel, we're contributing 10% of our earnings, and we're working hard for our earnings
We aren't unprofitable
And we're trying to set an example in other things, but
Even if you earned money, you won't contribute to God. You just run out and buy a bunch of rubbish
And you love it that way
You have really important things to do, Dan
"But I can't see anything worthwhile or very important at all. I can't see why Dad has to work
I'm stuck in my bed all the time, just because I like it. Worry about yourself. I'm not going to be bothered with anybody except my own pleasure. That's what you do. "Thou Shalt Know his purpose". Except you don't have anything to do and you're LAZY. Just LAZY
I bet when you have a home of your own, it'll be a big rubbish dump because you don't CARE
You're too lazy to pick up and straighten up.
You have no pride. You just like your shaggy old ugly self. You go around wearing the dirtiest and torn-up jeans you can get, and then you even go to Church in them. You're proud of it
Well, I can tell you one thing, I'm not proud of it. I'm ASHAMED of it. You think you're pretty cool, and you're bringing me lots of sorrow.

I Had Lost My Mind
01:46
|
|||
I had lost my mind
I lost my head for a while, was off my rocker, outta line, outta wack
You see, I had this tiny crack in my head
That slowly split open and my brain snoozed out, lyin' on the sidewalk and I didn't even know it
I had lost my mind
Why, I was sitting in the basement when I first realized it was gone
Got in my car, rushed right over to the lost and found
I said "pardon me, but I seem to have lost my mind."
She said "Well, can you identify it, please?"
I said "Why sure it's a cute little bugger
About yea big, a little warped from the rain"
She said "Well then sir, this must be your brain"
I said "Thank you ma'am, I'm always losin' that dang thing."
I had lost my brain

I'm getting closer to the fact
I've turned my back on silly dreams
I'm walking down that lonely road
And my heavy load
I didn't bother to bring it
And the sun shines down on me
I feel like I deserve it
When the sun shines down
I'm hiding out where you can't see
Behind a wall
In the back of the room
I'm crawling slowly through the dark
And feeling for a punchline
And the sun shines down on me
I want to feel like I deserve it
When the sun shine down
I'm walking down that empty road
But it ain't empty now
Because I'm on it
And I'm getting closer to a hope
That I can carry and take home with me
When the sun shines down on me
I feel like I have to earn it
When the sun shines down

Loner
04:10
|

"Hey."
"Hey, how you doing?"
"Uh, you're that-who was callin' my chick, yeah, that guy?"
"What?"
"Yup, callin' my chick again I said-"
"Your chick? She's your chick, huh?"
"...Yeah."
"I'm her cousin."
"Wha?"
"I'm her cousin."
"Oh, uh, okay. Okay then, I-uh, sorry man."
"Oh that's okay, huh?"
"Here she is, then."
"Okay."
"Alright. Okay, tell him, uh, 'you better watch it'."
"Huh?"
"You tell that guy he'd better watch it."
"Alright. Take care, alright?"
"Alright. Okay."
"Okay, bye."
"Ha-hang on!"
I wish I could be as happy as you
I wish I could have as much fun as you do
I wish I could be your friend but I-I-I'm afraid
I wish I had my own way but I rarely do
But I wish I had my way with you
I'm a loner
Ooo-ho, loner
Been a loner since high school - oh yeah
And a loner ain't no fool - oh yeah
I'm a loner
Ooo - yeah, eh-eh
Be a loner in a crowded room - oh yeah
Take me to an ocean, I'll be loner still
But I wish I could be your friend
I'm a loner
Ooo, - ooo
I'm a loner in my car - oh yeah
Sometimes it gets scary - oh yeah
Been a loner since high school - oh yeah
And a loner ain't no fool - oh yeah
But I wish I could be as happy as you
And I wish I could have as much fun as you do
I wish I could be your friend but I-I-I'm afraid
I'm a loner
I'm a loner - ooo~
Lone, lone, lone, lone, lone, lone
Lone, lone, lone, lone, lone, lone, lone
Oo-ooo~, ooo~, loner, ooo~
I'm a loner

Don't Be Scared
03:21
|
|||
There's a life worth living and it's interesting
There's a calm that's real somewhere
There's a jungle stream and band that's playing
There's a tune worth whistling to
Don't be scared
You can't see it if you don't believe it
It's not the kind of thing you can see
It won't help you out if you forget
'Cause it's not the kind of thing you can remember
Why must you give yourself a global rating
Numbers can mess up everything
Don't do that

Lullaby
03:11
|
|||
Even when the jokes were bad
Think of all the fun we had
I just got back from church
Yee I really like that place
Love to see the children run and play
Watch the ladies gather round in circles
Domestic life
Love to see the children run and play
There was a storm outside as we drove home
The night sky was pure blue
I thought about all the different things
That happened to all the different people I knew
Even when the jokes were bad
Think of all the fun we had
I worked in an oil refinery
I didn't really like it
There was this girl there
Who acted like she hated me
But only because she loved me
Even though that wasn't healthy
It was kinda nice
Even when the jokes were bad
Think of all the fun we had
She said I was a real loser
But at least I'm real
And being real
Sometimes is a losing game
Even when the jokes were bad
Think of all the fun we had

I Was Alone
03:43
|
|||
In a town any town
It was raining
I was walking down the sidewalk
Late one night, alone
I had been alone all that evening
I was rather tired of feeling this way
All of a sudden, I stopped walking
Turned around
And again I saw that I was alone
So, I went on down to the park
I ran into the park
Thought I heard something behind the bushes
But I was alone!
So, I walked down the middle of the road
The car! The car is coming!
It was gone!
Again, I was alone
So, I walked up the street
Down an alley
Slipped on some mud
I was alone and messy too
Down the sidewalk, past my block
All the lights were out, and I was alone
Walked into my apartment
I was alone
So, I put in my undies
And I was alone
Slipped into my bed, alone
Went to sleep
And I started to dream
I was at this big ball, there were millions of people
And they were all there and so was I!
There was so many people, all of them my friends!
Everyone... everyone talking, laughing, joking with me!
Oh, I was so... So happy. Oh, I was so happy!
And then... then suddenly, I woke up
And I was alone

Mother Mom Said
03:35
|
|||
I had a reason
I had an excuse
My heart was bleeding
My head was in the noose
What did mother mom say?
What did mother mom say?
What did mother mom say?
What did mother mom say?
Mother mom said
Mother mom said
Mother mom said
Mother mom said, don't go
Mother mom said
My arms were shaking
Like a chicken wing coop
I had it all spelled out for me
In my alphabet soup
And those soup cans and pop bottles
Dancing in the nude
And the nervous radio played forgotten songs
That only an orphan could remember
And then everything fell apart
And then everything came together
And there were shoelaces there a million miles long
And I was gone
What did mother mom say?
What did mother mom say?
What did mother mom say?
Well, what did mother mom say?
Mother mom said
Mother mom said
Mother mom said
Mother mom said, don't go
Please don't go
My bank account just fell through
Elma says it happened to her son
And now I'm hitting the road
Elma says it happened to her son
Elma says
Elma says
Elma says
Elma told my mom
Elma told my mom
Elma told my mom
Elma told my mom
Elma told my mom, don't go
Please don't go
Please don't go
Please don't go
